Whether various merchants are selling books, services, clothes or gadgets, they are bound to share some commonalities and one of these is obvious: an online shop. Online shops may differ in the goods being offered or in the design being used to attract customers, but the type of information being provided is basically the same. Try to think of your favorite online shop and check if its anatomy is “normal” using the following checklist. • FREEBIES PAGE. This page may or may not be present in your online store, but those merchants who want to keep you longer in their site will take advantage of this page to draw you in and pique your interest further. The freebies featured in this page may include online coupons or free relevant articles and information about the products or services being sold on the online shop. • PAYMENTS PAGE. This page contains a number of blank spaces which you must fill out with personal details such as your full name, mailing address, phone number, credit card number and other relevant information. This page helps the merchant keep track of you, its customer, and can even be stored so that you will receive updates on the merchants' future products and promotions. In most cases, the payments page appears right after you click and confirm your push cart selection. When viewing this page, check if the site has a padlock logo at the lower right corner of your screen because if you can't find any, be warned that you are entering crucial information on an unsecured site. • POLICIES PAGE. This page contains helpful information regarding online transactions between the seller and the buyer. It may include general guidelines for placing, changing or cancelling orders, as well as acceptable forms of payment and charges that apply to special circumstances. Conventional ones are written in numeric or bulleted sequence while contemporary ones use the user-friendly question-and-answer format. For your protection and information, read everything that is written on this page. Doing so might just spare you from future headaches. • PRODUCTS INDEX. To ease your navigation through the site, a products index lists the products by categories. The index is usually fashioned vertically at either the left side or right side of the page. Other online shops use horizontal indexes at either the top or bottom of the page. • PRODUCTS PAGE. This page is the heart of any online shop. Without this page, online shops do not deserve to be called shops at all. The products page contains text as well as photos of goods that are for sale. The text is usually brief and bulleted, containing vital information such as dimensions, features, type of material used, manufacturer and selling price. Other sites offer daintier information by giving you a more entertaining and informative but concise product review. Empty and clickable boxes are also placed proximate to the product, or along with a shopping cart logo. When you click the box or the shopping cart logo, you are expressing your intention to make the purchase. You can easily uncheck the box or “unclick” the shopping cart logo if you change your mind. |
